Qué mejor momento que pasar por la tienda de El Ganso en Londres y conocer un poco mas a Nacho Cuevas, Responsable de tienda, que en unos días tan especiales como son los de Las Olimpiadas 2012?

Nacho no ha dudado ni un instante en vivir una nueva experiencia y dejar su ciudad para hacerse con el puesto de encargado de tienda en Londres, en la mítica calle de Carnaby donde está nuestra – de momento – única tienda inglesa. Nos cuenta aquí su deseo de viajar, sus experiencias en la marca y por supuesto, su visión de Londres.

There are surely few better days to pass by our Carnaby Street store and meet Nacho Cuevas, our Store manager, than the days we are living now, during the 2012 London Olympic games.

Nacho didn’t hesitate any moment when he was offered the opportunity to live a new experience and left Madrid, his home city, to become our store manager in London, in the very iconic Carnaby Street where is our only – for the time being – english store. He tells us about his desire to discover the world, his trajectory inside El Ganso and of course, his life in London.

¿Cuál ha sido tu recorrido en El Ganso? 

Comencé en El Ganso hace 2 años cuando me incorporé al equipo de La Moraleja. Durante este tiempo he vivido muchas y muy buenas experiencias  y he podido hacer buenos amigos dentro de la empresa. Cuando hace 4 meses se me prestó la oportunidad de trasladarme a Londres como manager de la tienda en Carnaby St., no lo dudé ni un momento.

Tell us about your trajectory inside El Ganso

I’ve been working for El Ganso. I began in the La Moraleja shop in Madrid. Along the months, I’ve been accumulating not only experience but also very good memories and friends. Four months ago, when I’ve been given the opportunity to move to London and to manage El Ganso new shop in Carnaby St., I didn’t spend much time thinking about it.

¿Cuál es el secreto para tener a un buen equipo?

Creo que es muy importante transmitirles que somos un equipo y con esfuerzo e ilusión se alcanzan las metas. La verdad es que tengo mucha suerte de trabajar con gente tan encantadora. En cuanto abrimos la tienda, en seguida se creo un ambiente muy bueno entre nosotros. Además, gracias a ellos he podido adaptarme rápidamente a la ciudad.

What is the secret for a good team?

In my opinion, the most important thing is to transmit the team spirit. We have to make feel that with effort and will, anything is possible. I consider myself very lucky as I’m working with a great team. A few hours after opening the shop, a good atmosphere was already palpable. And all of my colleagues helped me adapt to London very rapidly.

Cuéntanos un día en la vida de Nacho, encargado de tienda en Carnaby

Suelo levantarme pronto a correr a London Fields , un parque cerca de  mi casa , siempre con buena música, por supuesto. Tras un buen desayuno, una buena ducha y a trabajar.

Define to us what a regular day in the life of Nacho, manager of Carnaby St. shop, is.

I usually wake early, in order to go running in London Fields, a park that is in my neighborhood, listening to good music, of course. I then take a good shower, a solid breakfast and to work!

¿Cómo definirías a El Ganso?

Una gran familia que no para de crecer. Desde el primer día que empiezas en la empresa te das cuenta de que es algo diferente, y poco a poco te vas impregnando de su espíritu.

How would you define El Ganso?

To me, it’s a big family that doesn’t stop growing. From day one as a worker, you realize that it’s something else, and day after day, you absorb everything there is to get.

¿Cómo se presentó la oportunidad de irte a Londres y porqué la aceptaste?

Siempre he sido un enamorado de esta ciudad. Vine hace tiempo de vacaciones y me quedé impresionado con las tiendas de ropa. Los estilismos, la decoración , la variedad de producto , es diferente a todo. Sin lugar a duda, Londres, es la capital de las tendencias. Cuando comencé a trabajar en la empresa siempre comentaba a mis compañeros que El Ganso debía estar aquí, todas las grandes firmas tienen en Londres su flagship store, y nosotros no podíamos ser menos. La empresa me brindó la oportunidad de venir, y no lo dudé: es un gran reto personal y profesional.

How did you get the opportunity to go to London, and how did you get to accept it?

I’ve always been in love with this city. A long time ago I came here on holidays and I was blown away by the cloth shops. The style they had, the interior decoration, the product variety they offered… There was nothing like it. When I began working for El Ganso, I always told my colleagues that we had all the right in the world to be there: every brand that counts has its flagship store in London, and we cannot be any different. The firm gave me the opportunity to come here and I didn’t have any doubt about it: it’s a great professional and personal challenge.

¿Cómo se viven los juegos olímpicos desde la ciudad organizadora? ¿Habéis notado más afluencia de lo habitual?

Es la primera vez que voy a vivir una experiencia así. La verdad es que me hace mucha ilusión poder estar aquí,  en una ciudad tan multicultural como Londres en la que todo se hace a lo grande.

Desde hace unas semanas se respira un ambiente diferente: cada vez hay más gente en todos los rincones, las tiendas decoran sus escaparates, las calles se llenan de banderas y símbolos olímpicos, se multiplican los conciertos, espectáculos…

Nosotros, desde El Ganso, acogemos los Juegos Olímpicos con especial interés y motivación. Hemos lanzando esta nueva tienda en Carnaby Street, una de las calles más céntricas y reconocidas en cuanto a moda en Londres. Una calle en la que se espera que la afluencia de gente sea muy grande y podamos dar a conocer la marca no sólo en el Reino Unido, sino también internacionalmente. Cada día se nota más la afluencia de gente. Vienen desde Rusia, Estados Unidos, México, Hong Kong, Dubai…, compran y se interesan por la marca. Todo esto motiva a todo nuestro equipo de Carnaby a trabajar aún más duro para que el nombre de El Ganso no deje de crecer y atravesar fronteras.

How do you live the olympic games from the organizing ity? Have you noticed an increased flow in the Carnaby shopping zone?

It’s the first time I am givent the opportunity to live something like this and truth is I am quite excited about it. It’s gonna great for sure as London and its multicultural aspect will surely go along with the olympic spirit.

It’s been of course a totally different thing during the last weeks as you can feel the effervescence: every day there are more and more people discovering the city and of course the Carnaby shopping zone. Shops are decorating, preparing themselves to live the games, you can see olympic symbols everywhere in the city… It’s a great feeling!

From El Ganso, we live these games with of course a very special interest and motivation. This shop is situated in one of the most iconic street of London. It’s a street where we do wait for a lot of crowd to come by. It’s a great opportunity to present El Ganso to the world. We see people here from all around the world : Russia, United States, Mexico, Hong Kong, Dubai… They buy and they want to know more about the brand. This helps and motivates us to work every day harder in order to make the name El Ganso known to the world!

¿Un libro, una canción y una peli que nos recomiendas antes de venir a verte a Londres?

Ahora mismo estoy leyendo Game of Thrones (Juego de Tronos ). Se lo recomiendo a todo el mundo… Y a los más perezosos siempre os queda la serie!

En la tienda siempre suena el tema “Something Good Can Work” de Two Doors Cinema Club; es una canción que me anima cuando la escucho y la llevo siempre en el iPod.

Una buena peli… Me gustan mucho los clásicos! La Gran Evasión es una de mis favoritas; y Steve McQueen un tío que marcó estilo sin lugar a duda.

A book, a song and a movie that you would recommend us before we come to see you in Carnaby Street?

I’ve been reading Game of Thrones for a while and I’m totally into it right now. It’s a great book and I recommend it to anyone. And if you don’t fancy reading it, you still can watch the series!

In our store we can hear Something good can work by Two Doors Cinema Club. I love this song and I have it in my iPod to cheer up whenever I’m down.

As for movies, I’m definitely one who loves classics. The Great Escape is one of my favorites. Steve McQueen is a man that definitely left his mark on style.

¿Una ciudad para vivir, una para ir de fiesta y otra para descubrir?

No te podría decir una ciudad para vivir, me queda mucho mundo por ver, pero seguramente esa ciudad tendría que tener playa, me encanta el mar.
Para irse de fiesta, Londres se caracteriza por su amplia variedad, es perfecta!
New York es mi cuenta pendiente; sueño con conocer Manhattan algún día. Todo el mundo habla maravillas.

A city lo live in, a city to party and a city to discover?

I wouldn’t be able to tell you a city to live in: there is still much for me to discover, but this city would definitely have to have a beach. To party, I would say London of course, as it’s a cosmopolitan city, to me it’s perfect. New York is the city I have to discover. Everybody I know that has been there tells me it’s incredible.

¿Un sitio en Londres para el jueves por la noche, el sábado por la tarde y el domingo por la mañana?

El jueves por la noche es perfecto para disfrutar del Soho y de su amplia oferta gastronómica.

El sábado por la tarde es el momento para ir de compras por Carnaby St. ¡Cómo no! Es una mítica calle mítica en la que se respira un gran ambiente.

El domingo me acercaría a Camden Town; es una visita obligada en tu viaje a Londres. Si te gusta lo vintage, un buen paseo de compras, empaparte de la multiculturalidad de la ciudad y probar la gastronomía de cualquier rincón del mundo, ese es tu sitio.

Tell us about a place in London for the Thursday night, the Saturday afternoon and the Sunday morning.

Soho would be a good place for the Thursday night as it offers a huge variety of gastronomies.

On the Saturday afternoon, I recommend you to come to Carnaby St. of course. It is an institution and there is a great atmosphere.

Looking at the Sunday morning, I would personally go to Camdem Town: it’s an iconic place where you have to go if you are visiting London. There, you can find any vintage cloth you want, taste any gastronomy in the world and experiment the multicultural aspect of London.
